What Resend is for

Your app needs to send email on its own: the login code, the password reset link, the receipt after a purchase. These are transactional emails, one person at a time, triggered by something they did. Resend is the service your code calls to send them from your own domain, so they land in the inbox instead of spam, and it can also send newsletters on a separate plan.

How it plugs into your product

  1. 1Create a free account and add your domain (ideally a subdomain like mail.yourapp.com).
  2. 2Copy the DNS records Resend shows into wherever your domain is managed (Registro.br, Cloudflare…) and wait for it to verify, usually minutes to a few hours.
  3. 3Create an API key and keep it on the server, never in the browser code.
  4. 4Call Resend from your backend when the event happens (sign-up, purchase), optionally with a webhook to learn about bounces.

Does it fit your idea?

It fits if

  • A Next.js or Node SaaS that needs login codes, password resets and receipts, with templates written in React.
  • An app that sends a few thousand to 50,000 transactional emails a month and wants one predictable bill.
  • A product built with an AI coding tool, where the SDK and docs make the integration quick to get right.

Look elsewhere if

  • You send millions of emails a month and price per email is what matters: Amazon SES costs far less.
  • Your marketing team wants a drag-and-drop editor and campaign reports without a developer: Brevo or Mailchimp fit better.
  • Nobody on the team can edit code or DNS records: there is no setup without both.

What people only find out after building

Read this before you build on it. Each item links to the official page that says so.

  • The free plan stops at 100 emails a day, not just 3,000 a month. On a launch day with 150 sign-ups, the last login codes don't go out until midnight UTC.

  • If you also receive email through Resend, each received email counts against the same daily and monthly quota.

    Official source: resend.com
  • Keep bounces under 4% and spam complaints under 0.08%. Above that, Resend may pause your sending, and the policy allows shutting the account down without warning. Never import a bought or old list.

  • Newsletters are a separate plan priced by contacts ($40/month for 5,000), on top of the transactional plan.

  • A dedicated IP only exists on the Scale plan ($90/month and up), costs $30/month extra and requires more than 3,000 emails a day.

What it costs in practice

A SaaS with 2,000 active users sending around 20,000 emails a month (logins, resets, receipts) is past the free 3,000, so it lands on Pro: $20/month covers up to 50,000. Rough estimate.
