What Mercado Pago is for
Mercado Pago lets your app take Pix, boleto, card and Mercado Pago balance through a checkout that many Brazilians already know from Mercado Livre. You send the customer to its checkout or payment link, they pay the way they like, and Mercado Pago tells your app. You choose how fast card money arrives, and faster costs more.
How it plugs into your product
- 1Open a Mercado Pago seller account and, to accept Pix, register a Pix key on it.
- 2Create an application in the developer dashboard to get test and production credentials.
- 3From your server, create the checkout or the subscription and send the customer to the Mercado Pago link.
- 4Add webhooks so your app unlocks access when a payment is approved and blocks it when one fails.
Does it fit your idea?
It fits if
- You sell to consumers who already have a Mercado Pago account and trust its checkout.
- Most payments come by Pix and you want the money right away at 0.99%.
- You want to start with a payment link and only later wire it into your app.
Look elsewhere if
- Most revenue is on card and you need it fast: the immediate rate is 4.98%.
- You sell to customers abroad in other currencies.
- You want the nota fiscal issued by the gateway with each payment.
What people only find out after building
Read this before you build on it. Each item links to the official page that says so.
The card fee depends on when you get the money: 4.98% right away, 4.49% in 14 days or 3.98% in 30 days. The low rate on the ads means waiting a month.

Official source: mercadopago.com.brWhen a customer opens a complaint or dispute, the money for that sale is held until the mediation is resolved.
Official source: mercadopago.com.brIn card subscriptions, Mercado Pago runs a small test charge to validate the card, and after 3 declined installments the subscription is cancelled automatically.
